Isn’t she wonderful? Yeah, she kinda is.
Last year I had the opportunity to show some work with a dear friend of mine and we both independently settled on doing super hero pinups. I already posted Mystique, but I thought that now would be a good time to get back into showing the rest of them.
Wonder Woman was the only one I was absolutely sure was going to be included in the show, but I didn’t want to give her the same spandex treatment she normally receives, so I went more in line with the Greco-Roman Legionnaire aesthetic. And now I just want to draw her like this all the time.
8″ x 10″. Watercolor on paper.
And here she is; the last of the Celestial Cuties in my zodiac series. I’m actually kind of proud of this piece above all the others, but mostly because whenever I’ve seen a personification of Pisces, she’s almost always a mermaid. I’m just happy that I found some other schtick to go with. I hope you’ve enjoyed them!
As we approach the end of the celestial cuties we find ourselves gazing upon Aquarius — the water bringer. Though she appears towards the end of the list, she was the first sign I completed. The fact that she’s my sign might have something to do with that. Then again, it could be purely coincidental. (Probably not.)
I just realized that I haven’t finished posting the zodiac girls, so I’ll try to wrap those up this week. The antepenultimate girl in the series is Capricorn — the goat. She may be one of my favorite, and I can’t exactly explain why.
I haven’t posted anything in two months? How did that happen! I took some time off, got busy, got distracted, and then got busy again. Still, hard to believe it’s been so long. I do apologize.
So, in hopes that you’ll forgive me, I offer you this. It’s the (colored) first page of the comic I’m working on with my buddy Owen. Remember when I wanted to do the whole book like this? What was I thinking?
Sometimes I find myself stuck with nothing much else to do, a sketchbook, and my watercolor kit. When that happens, how could I not spend my time making silly little drawings? These little paintings are getting fun.
If you’ve known me for longer than a week you know that I’m not known for making things easy on myself. To that end, this is a sneak peek into a project that I’m working on that may very well kill me.
I can’t wait until I have more to show you!
Man! Talk about one from the archives! This is one of the first pieces I did once upon a time. I thought I had lost this little wonder but I unearthed it while digging through files deep in my hard drive. You can see how certain parts of the style have evolved over the past few years. Moving on…
A friend suggested I draw her as a Cthulu-riddled she-beast and I really couldn’t pass it up. I mean, who could, really?
Back in October (wow, I’m really keeping current aren’t I?) my mom celebrated her birthday, so I decided to draw her a picture. What did I draw? Was it a sensitive portrait? Was it a luscious landscape? Was it a beautiful and touching reminder of our beloved family pet? Nope. I drew Pinhead. From Hellraiser. Because that’s how we roll.
P.S. She loved it. And how could she not? Look at how adorable this terrifying hell spawn is.
Carrying on with the Zodiac leads us to Scorpio. I couldn’t help myself — I had to make her a little squishier than the rest. (I don’t really know why though.)
Larger projects are eating up all of my time, but I’m trying not to neglect my poor little blog. Hopefully there will be neat things to share in the immediate future!
